The Redevelopment Agency approved the Midtown Redevelopment Project Area Plan on July 2, 2002. The project area encompasses approximately 3,500 acres and includes the area generally between Interstate 5 and State Route 99, south of Harding Way and north of the Crosstown Freeway.
When the Redevelopment Agency adopted the Midtown Project Area they also merged the existing Eastland Redevelopment Project with Midtown. The Eastland Redevelopment Project was a 94-acre commercial, retail and residential development containing the Eastland Plaza Shopping Center located on Wilson Way.
No specific projects are in progress at the current time, but the Midtown Project Area Committee (PAC), which is composed of nine residents and business owners and operators from the area, is working to establish priorities for the types of programs and projects that would most benefit the area. In general terms, the following are the types of projects that the PAC would like to see undertaken:
-
Housing Projects, consisting primarily of housing rehabilitation and home ownership assistance;
-
Business assistance, including assistance with new construction and business retention programs;
-
Clean-up of contaminated properties; and
-
Infrastructure repairs.
