Oak Park Ice Arena Emergency Repairs Department: Community Services

Emergency repairs will begin this week at the Oak Park Ice Arena. The ice rink has been closed since April 18, due to a compressor failure that created unsafe ice conditions. The repairs will take approximately 3 weeks and the ice rink is expected to reopen in June. The Oak Park Ice Arena has been a recreation resource for the community for over 40 years. It is typically open daily and hosts approximately 30,000 users annually, for a variety of uses. The facility is considered home to a figure skating club, a junior hockey club, a senior hockey club and recreational skaters and offers programs to beginning to advanced ice skaters with private and group lessons. The Stockton Thunder, a minor league professional team, practices there when the rink is available. The nearest ice skating rinks are in Roseville/Rocklin and Dublin. Without repairs, the ice rink would be in danger of closing permanently. Repairs will cost approximately $65,000. The funding source for the repairs is a fund designated specifically for recreation use only.
